Availability and planning

Are you accepting work or appointments?

No. Services and the website are still in development. An opening date has not been confirmed, and bookings are not being accepted.

Where will fittings take place?

Fittings will take place by appointment at David’s home-based workspace in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There is no retail storefront.

How far ahead should I plan?

Once services open, a usual event fitting window will be 60–90 days before the event. Earlier contact is recommended to discuss availability. This does not guarantee a particular turnaround time.

Will rush alterations be available?

Rush requests will depend on the work needed and David’s current workload. They will be considered case by case and may cost extra.

Preparing and choosing a garment

What should I bring?

Bring the garment, intended shoes and undergarments, and any layers that will affect the fit. For special-event clothing, have the event date available too.

Do garments need to be cleaned before drop-off?

Yes. Please have garments cleaned before dropping them off. Customers are responsible for garment cleaning. David’s will provide pressing and steaming only, not laundering, professional cleaning or dry-cleaning.

What size dress should I buy if I expect to have it altered?

Use the size chart for the specific dress. Compare your bust, waist and hip measurements, then choose the size that accommodates whichever measurement requires the largest size on that chart.

For example, if your bust corresponds to one size and your hips require the next size up, start with the size that accommodates your hips.

It is generally easier to take a garment in than to let it out. Even so, major reductions can affect the garment’s shape and construction and need an assessment. Avoid assuming that any dress can be altered to fit.

Options and value

How much will an alteration cost?

The cost will depend on the garment and the work needed. David will assess it during a fitting and provide an estimate for you to approve before work begins. Fitting time will be included in the overall alteration charge.

Can every garment be altered or repaired?

No. Fabric condition, construction, seam allowance and the size of the proposed change can limit what’s possible. David will explain those limits so you can decide whether the work makes sense for you.

Is an alteration worthwhile if the garment wasn’t expensive?

Purchase price is only one consideration. Comfort, usefulness and sentimental value may matter just as much to you. An assessment and estimate will help you make that decision.
