Fit adjustments

Every garment starts with an assessment

The right approach depends on the garment, how it fits and what you want to change. When services open, David will assess the work at a fitting and provide an estimate for your approval.

Hemming

Adjusting the length of trousers, skirts or dresses can make clothing more comfortable and practical to wear. Bring the shoes you intend to wear with the garment so the hem can be assessed at the appropriate height.

Taking in clothing

Clothing that has become too loose may be adjustable for a closer fit. The amount that can be taken in depends on its construction and proportions. Larger changes need an assessment before deciding whether they’re practical.

Making a garment larger

Letting out clothing depends on whether there is usable fabric inside the seams. In some cases, an added panel may be an option, but it needs to work with the garment’s design. Enlargement cannot be assumed without examining the garment.

Repairs and patches

Worn or damaged clothing may still have useful life left in it. Repair options will depend on the fabric, the condition of the surrounding area and how you use the garment.

Some repairs remain visible. David will discuss what is realistic rather than promise that every repair can disappear.

Bridal and formalwear

Special-event clothing needs to be assessed with the intended shoes, undergarments and relevant layers. These help establish how the garment will sit and move when worn.

Planning ahead matters, particularly when you have a fixed event date. Once services open, the usual fitting window will be 60–90 days before the event, with earlier contact recommended to discuss availability.

Cleaning and garment care

Please have garments cleaned before dropping them off. Customers are responsible for garment cleaning. When services open, David’s will provide pressing and steaming only, not laundering, professional cleaning or dry-cleaning.
