What to Expect at a Fitting

Preparing for a fitting
The planned fitting process
When services open, fittings will be by appointment only at David’s home-based workspace in Sioux Falls. The appointment is an opportunity to look at the garment together, discuss your goals and establish what’s feasible.
Have garments cleaned before drop-off
Please have garments cleaned before dropping them off. Customers are responsible for garment cleaning. David’s will offer pressing and steaming only; laundering, professional cleaning and dry-cleaning will not be available.
1 Bring what you’ll wear
Bring the garment and:
- The shoes you intend to wear with it
- The intended undergarments
- Any relevant layers that affect its fit
For event clothing, be ready to share the event date.

Assessment and estimate
2 Explain what you’d like to change
Point out anything that feels too loose, too long, uncomfortable or damaged. Mention details you want to preserve and anything that makes the garment especially important to you.
3 Review the options and estimate
David will examine the fit, fabric and construction before recommending the work. You’ll receive an estimate and approve it before alterations begin.
Fitting time will be included in the overall alteration charge.

Planning your timing
4 Discuss timing
The amount of work and current workload will determine what can be accommodated. For special events, the usual fitting window will be 60–90 days beforehand. Earlier contact will help establish availability once appointments open.
That window is for planning a fitting; it is not a guaranteed completion time. Rush requests will be considered individually and may carry an additional charge.
